International Register of Shipping presents to Brazilian Naval School
International Register of Shipping teaches Safety Management systems and the international safety management code to naval school in Brazil

LONDON, ENGLAND, November 28, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- International Register of Shipping Managing Director Mr. Said Nassif along with IRS Brazilian representative Mr. Castello Branco, this month were invited to address the Brazilian Naval School of merchant officers in Rio de Janeiro, presenting to newly graduated Port State Control Officers about Safety Management Systems (SMS) and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

SMS is the documented procedure for managing risks that incorporate operational and technical systems to ensure that vessels are maintained and operated safely, preventing maritime accidents and at the same time protecting the marine environment.

The system provides the wherewithal for companies and their vessels to comply with the ISM Code, and must be certified by the administration of the flag state.

"It was a highly successful meeting and presentation that I think proved beneficial to the Officers," said IRS Managing Director Said Nassif. "Many of the Officers expressed interest in learning more about the Maritime Safety Management Systems Auditor Training Course. We believe that's a testament to the skill set IRS brings to the maritime industry - we can provide training through our recently IRCA-approved Safety Management Systems Auditor Training Course."
